Stafford's advantageous location and geography result in a diversity of local recreational choices. Stafford is bordered to the east by the Potomac River, and to the south by the Rappahannock River, for a combined total of 51 miles of shoreline! The rivers and their tributaries provide the perfect setting for water sports, as well as a scenic water route to the Chesapeake Bay. In particular, the Rappahannock River is noted for its natural, undeveloped shores and its white water canoeing. Creeks and lakes abound in the county, and many parks offer an escape to observe the wildlife and natural surroundings. There are also several indoor, all-season recreational opportunities for fun.
