Q.  What is the function of the Stafford Economic Development Office?
A.  Economic Development is a local government department that assists in the marketing, growth and expansion of new and existing businesses within Stafford County, to ensure a strong and viable local economy is in place for Stafford companies and residents.  Specifically, the Department assists businesses interested in building or establishing a location in Stafford, in an effort to provide new employment opportunities for area residents, and to help in building the local tax base.

Q.  How do I start a business or obtain a business license in Stafford?
A.  Please contact our office at (540) 658-8681 to request new business registration information and to speak with a member of the Economic Development team.  Detailed information can also be found in the Doing Business in Stafford section of the website.

Q.  Can Economic Development assist my business in finding a commercial site or building?
A.  Economic Development does keep in contact with commercial developers and realtors in an effort to match company requirements with appropriate sites and buildings.  Please visit the Search for Real Estate section of our website to identify properties available for industrial, retail, commercial, office and flex space.  Or, please contact our office at (540) 658-8681 for additional assistance.

Q.  What industries are being targeted for Stafford?
A.  Stafford County is interested in diversifying its corporate roster in order to maintain a healthy economic base for the community.  As the home of Marine Corps Base Quantico, Stafford currently works with many military and federal government contractors.  Stafford is also actively working to expand research, technology, and high-tech manufacturing sectors in the community in order to provide additional job opportunities for our educated workforce.  Of course, as George Washington’s Boyhood Home, Stafford is also very interested in growing its tourism and hospitality offerings.

Q.  What resources are available to existing businesses? 
A.  Stafford County offers a number of programs and provides assistance to established Stafford businesses who wish to increase workforce, enhance product development and expand services within Stafford County.  For more information, visit the Business Retention and Expansion portion of our website.

Q.  What is the Stafford Regional Airport?
A.  Stafford Regional Airport is a general aviation reliever airport located at Centreport Parkway (Exit 136 off Interstate 95), in close proximity to the nation's capital, and outside of the Washington, D.C. enhanced Class B airspace and SFRA.  Amenities include:  5,000 x 100 ft. instrument runway, parallel taxiways, terminal building, Jet-A and Av-Gas fuel storage facilities and tender trucks, paved aircraft parking aprons, tie-downs, Tee Hangars, and ground lease opportunities for corporate and business aircraft hangar development.  Stafford Regional Airport is owned and operated by an independent authority.  Currently, there is no personal property aircraft tax in Stafford, Virginia.  Go to for more information.

Q.  What road and highway projects are planned in Stafford County?
A.  A number of significant road projects are planned in Stafford, including a new interchange at the Stafford exit (#140 off I-95) and widening of US 17 (Warrenton Rd.), west of Interstate 95.  Other projects in design include improvements to Russell Road and US Route 1, outside the gates of Marine Corps Base Quantico, in the Boswell’s Corner area of Stafford.  Additional information about projects, both funded and future plans, can be found on the VDOT website under the Fredericksburg Regional District. 

Q.  Does Economic Development orchestrate or publicize ribbon cuttings for new businesses? 
Stafford County Economic Development does not typically orchestrate ribbon cuttings for new businesses, although we can certainly assist in their coordination.  Contact the Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce for assistance with such events.  However, Economic Development does mention new businesses in its quarterly newsletter, and does link to related news articles in the News and Publications section of this website, in an effort to help promote and support Stafford businesses. 

Q.  Can you provide a list of, and contact information for, Stafford County businesses?
As a government agency, Stafford County Economic Development does not maintain nor provide a comprehensive list of Stafford businesses for public use.  Interested parties may wish to contact the Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce for business contact information.
