STAFFORD, VA. – August 27, 2024 – Amazon celebrated the official opening of our new, state-of-the-art Inbound Cross Dock with Governor Glenn Youngkin, state and local officials and community partners in Stafford. The 630,000 square-foot facility is Amazon’s newest operations site in Virginia and the commonwealth’s second Amazon inbound cross dock. Inside of the Stafford facility, over 750 employees operate and work with innovative technology to assist in fulfilling customer orders.
“As the best state for business, Virginia offers growing companies best-in-class talent, infrastructure, power solutions and a business-friendly environment,” said Governor Glenn Youngkin. “Amazon’s continued decision to expand in the Commonwealth is a testament to that. We’re honored to have such a strong growth partnership with Amazon and are thrilled that their newest operations site is opening in Stafford.”
“Amazon’s continued investment in communities large and small has been a boon to our commonwealth’s economy. I’m thrilled that with this state-of-the art facility there are hundreds of new, great paying jobs right here in the Stafford region,” said State Senator Tara Durant. “The more than 39,000 jobs created and $96 billion added to Virginia’s GDP are a testament to the strong relationship between businesses like Amazon and our commonwealth. Further, it’s more proof that Virginia is the number one state in America for doing business.”
“Stafford County deeply values Amazon’s partnership and significant investment in our community,” said Supervisor Darrell English. “Our strategic efforts to attract logistics, distribution, and data centers have been purposeful, and it’s rewarding to see Amazon recognize the promise and potential of Stafford County.”
“At Amazon we believe in investing in our employees and ensuring they have access to the skills and resources to grow professionally whether it’s with us, or anywhere else their aspirations guide them,” said Mike Waterman, GM of the Stafford Facility. ”To underscore this point, I’m proud to say that In the few short months since we launched, we’ve already had 75 entry level employees get promoted. We don’t just talk about being ‘Earth’s Best Employer’, we live it.“
“Amazon’s presence in Virginia means more than just the great jobs within the walls of facilities like these,” said Holly Sullivan Amazon’s Vice President of Worldwide Economic Development. “These investments have driven more than $96 billion into the state GDP. And, we are proud to support more than 11,000 independent sellers in Virginia, creating thousands of additional jobs across the state.”
Since 2010, Amazon has invested more than $135 billion in Virginia, including infrastructure and compensation to employees, and has created more than 39,000 full- and part-time jobs here. These investments support an additional 195,400 indirect jobs across the state, in fields like construction and professional services, and have contributed more than $96 billion to the Virginia GDP, on top of the company’s direct investments.
